Lieutenant Frisco was working an off-duty job when he tried to arrest a man suspected of a vehicle burglary.

 A woman reported a man trying to break into cars.  The suspect was located.  Lieutenant Frisco approached the truck.  The door was opened and the suspect was standing nearby.  Lieutenant Frisco told the man to stop, but the suspect jumped inside the truck and sped away.  Lieutenant Frisco grabbed onto the truck rails.  The trucked reached speeds of more than 60 miles per hour with Lieutenant Frisco clinging to the left side of the truck bed.  The suspect weaved through traffic in an effort to dislodge Lieutenant Frisco.  After three blocks, Lieutenant Frisco lost his grip and fell to the pavement where he was run over.

Lieutenant Frisco was survived by his son, John Jr.
