Patrolmen George Copeland III and James Bennett, Jr. were directing traffic around an accident when they were struck from behind as they stood by their patrol car.  Patrolman Copeland was thrown approximately 400 feet.  Both Patrolmen died from massive bodily injuries and severe burns.
