Nature of Death: Head injury sustained from fall.
While on duty at Fire Station No. 9, Firefighter Rivera lost his grip while sliding down one of the station’s fire poles and fell 18 feet. He was rushed to the Santa Rosa Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Firefighter Rivera was a 15-year veteran of the San Antonio Fire Department. He was buried at Fort Sam national Cemetery.
